Yorùbá (Standard Yoruba), Example 21

O̩mo̩ náà wè̩.
o̩mo̩
child
náà
DEF
wè̩
bathe
The child bathe/wash.
Comment:
Although the transitive usage of wè̩ also includes dead animates, the inchoative-causative alternation excludes a dead animate. Hence, while it is possible to say: ó we̩ òkú náà 'He bathed / washed the corpse', It is not correct to say: *òkú náà wè̩ 'The corpse bathed / washed'.
