Simplex verb

Verb meaning: EAT [eat]

Comment: chī is used mainly as a transitive verb. When used in BA and BEI alternations, it is usually followed by a complement indicating result of the eating. The oblique object of chī 'eat' can be various and different. It can be a location, tool, source, etc.. for example, wǒ chī shítáng (lit. 'I eat cafeteria.') Only a few highly frequently used verbs permit such alternations. Another verb with the alternations is kǎo 'examine', whose object could be the subject of the examination, a school or college the entrance exam is taken for, or an academic degree, the credit of the exam. etc..
