The Proto-Indo-European mediopassive does not continue in English. However, some instances of the periphrastic passive can hardly be interpreted as such. Although morphologically identical to the passive, these occurrences allow for non-passive interpretations, i.e. reflexive-middle (cf. Cennamo 2015: 452, where she argues for a ‘reflexive-middle’ continuum) or non-causal.
